Miami is my hometown, but this isn’t the city I grew up in… Miami changes all the time and natives love her through the booms and busts.

I found a very interesting webpage with Classic Miami Trivia. This quiz is a perfect example of how Miami is constantly changing.

Here is a sample of the easy ones:

  • 1.    What was called “The road to nowhere” in the 1970s?
  • 5.    Name the famous comedian that helped Miami by doing a live network TV program from here.
  • 6.    Name the BBQ landmark that burned to the ground in 1972 and was rebuilt.
  • 13.    Where was the original location for Tamiami Airport?
  • 17.    Which establishment in the City of Miami has liquor license #1 and was issued before prohibition?
  • 28.    Where did the big rotating globe in the lobby of the Miami Museum of Science come from?

And for the answers to these questions and to view more answers click here.

As I’d posted previously we are lucky to have Slava Snow Show in town at the Arsht Center it opened this past weekend and is running through August 31rst.

Local artist, community activist, and all around great guy Xavier Cortada has developed The Reclamation Project to help restore habitats for plants and animals in South Florida. This Thursday, July 31rst stop by the Museum of Science to support the Reclamation Project and sponsor a mangrove seedling for $25 in your name or one of your friend’s. Come on it’s the gift that keeps on growing. RSVP to john@reclamationproject.net

If you haven’t been to the Upper East Side Garden’s BYOB Thursday for Janus Film Nights this summer you’re missing out.

Luckily, you’re just in time to catch Milos Formans Loves of a Blonde this Thursday, July 10th.

Ticket costs five big ones aka $5 and includes popcorn, picnic mats or seats in the garden, putt putt and access to the new upstairs lounge.

As if anyone needed any more reasons to love The Standard now comes news that during the summer months of July and August they are offering FREE yoga classes.

Monday and Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.

For The Standard’s complete yoga schedule click here.

And speaking of loving The Standard, if you caught this month’s W magazine you may have noticed Bruce Webber’s cover story “Summer Camp” shot almost entirely on property. You can also view behind the scenes footage.

The always cool MAP magazine is doing it again this month hosting the Bombay Sapphire Art Lounge. This spot is sure to be chat central as locals will be throwing back some of the icy blue cocktails and discussing this Second Saturday’s most popular exhibits at the monthly Wynwood Art Walk. This time MAP has created an actual map… et voila genius. You can print a PDF of the MAP’s Wynwood July map.

If you get lost, yes, map and all… well, hey it happens then head back to square one or rather number 1 on the map , for another cocktail and drink tickets to use later at the after party taking place at PopLife in the White Room.
