The new Miami Weekly Yelp just came out today with tons of stuff to do for Halloween:

I don’t think Miami has enough Shopaholics ok ok we do have plenty of Shopaholics what we don’t have enough of is awareness for the great boutiques we have. Fortunately, Gen Art steps in and holds their much anticipated SHOP MIAMI.

SHOP MIAMI will once again be held at The Moore Building as guests can expect the usual luxe Gen Art treatment open bar, complimentary beauty/spa services, a slammin DJ, and a runway show.

Tomorrow night, Tuesday, March 18th, Sunglass Hut is unveiling it’s new flagship store on Miami Beach, a redesigned shop that provides visitors with an experience representative of the local brand and especially its Miami Collection.

The opening will also serve as a launch event for this year’s Gen Art Fresh Faces. The event will feature collections from past Fresh Faces participants including Uli Herzner, Julian Chang, Karelle Levy, Maya and Bogosse. These talented designers will showcase collections and Danny Masterson will be providing the night’s soundtrack.

I guess plenty of people will be wearing their Sunglasses at Night.

Just Don’t mess around with the guy in shades, OH NO.

Gen Art Fresh Faces

As I’ve mentioned before Gen Art’s Fresh Faces is one of my favorite events. And every year it seems to get BIGGER and BETTER!

Update/Save date

Just a quick update that there has been a change of date and Gen Art’s Fresh Faces 2008 will take place Saturday, April 12th 8:00 p.m. at the beautiful, new Gansevoort South.

Fresh Faces, is one of my favorite shows and it’s always a fun event in a gorgeous location.

Gen Art Miami Fresh Faces 2008 Save the Date

Back for it’s fifth year Gen Art’s Fresh Faces 2008 will take place Saturday, April 12th 8:00 p.m. at the beautiful, new Gansevoort South.

Fresh Faces, is always a captivating, glamorous show and this year will be no different. Seven local designers will show along side two designers who have previously showed for Gen Art in New York.

Tickets are:

• $75 VIP
• $40 General Admission

Films

Sundance Film Festival is happening right now and as one of the best film festivals in the world it often premieres the best films of the year to come. Shorts are a big part of the festival and last year’s Sundance Shorts are available on I-Tunes.

Shorts are becoming ever more popular and in Miami we have a local film company Gold Dickenson Productions won the Orlando Film Festival’s short film category. You can view the trailer here. Pencil Fighting: The Life and Times of Team Balderdash was filmed entirely in Miami. While it is evident that these local film makers are fans of Wes Anderson’s work, it will be good to see how they evolve as they find their signature style.

For film fans Miami is offering more choices. Just this week:

• Miami Jewish Film Festival runs through Sunday, January 27th includes Young Filmmakers Institute
• Wednesday, January 23, Gen Art presents a special advance screening of Be Kind Rewind starring Jack Black and Mos Def. The after party will be held at Rehab Bar. Gen Art screens movies once a month
• Thursday, January 24, Janus Film Night at the UpperEast Side Garden will be showing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, directed by Terry Gillam starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Torro. Janus Film night is every Thursday show starts at 8p.m.
• Friday, January 25, Like Water for Chocolate presented by Cinema Botanica at Fairchild Tropical Garden
• Friday, January 25, F is for Fellini at Miami Beach Cinematheque this week City of Women. The Miami Beach Cinematheque offers a steady stream of great cinema and film making workshops.

Fellini is also the theme of this year’s MOCA POP fund raiser POP 8 1/2 La Dolce Vita to be held February 9th. The online auction is already underway.

Art Basel Miami

Art Basel is here again. Quickly becoming one of the premier art weeks in North America Basel, Pulse, Scope and the rest of the satellite art fairs draw thousands of visitors to Miami each December. As Miami’s art scene grows and the number of fairs multiplies it is becoming more challenging to decide where to spend those precious few days. The three main areas of activity will be South Beach, the Wynwood Arts District, and the Miami Design District. Below is a list of must hit fairs and events.

• Art Basel : This is the flagship.
• GEISAI Miami : December 5-9 : Parliament Building, Soho Studios, Wynwood Art District, 2136 NW 1rst Avenue, Miami, FL 33127
  • 2001, GEISAI, Japanese for “art festival,” begins in Japan led by Kaiki Kiki, an artist led enterprise founded by Takashi Murakami. The idea is to allow artists to promote themselves and allow them to show and sell their work directly to the public. As you can imagine GEISAI takes off and six years later we’re lucky enough to have it show up on Miami’s radar. Traditionally GEISAI is held twice a year in Tokyo and has served as a launching pad for several artists. GEISAI Miami, has 20 artists representing five countries….. 3… 2… 1… lift-off
• PULSE : December 5-9 : Soho Studios, Wynwood Art District, 2136 NW 1rst Avenue, Miami, FL 33127
  • Fresh off its first London venture, PULSE comes to Miami for the third consecutive year. This year PULSE promises to maintain its edge and take up a notch hosting the debut of GEISAI Miami and offering a technology and video lounge, Pulse Play>. This year Pulse Play> presents Shot, Counter-Shot curated by Christopher Eamon as the video program.

  • The Association of International Photography Art Dealers makes its debut in Miami, over 40 of the world’s leading photo galleries will be in attendance.

  • Gen Art Miami’s Vanguard presents 25 up and coming artists curated by Francesco LoCastro entitled No One Belongs Here More than You. On Friday, December 7th stop by for one of Gen Art’s Miami’s party. In case you didn’t know Gen Art Miami’s parties are known for being an eclectic mixture of thriving, raw, creative energy and bohemian luxe-chic style.
